The origin of Portsmouth is linked precisely to its rich sea coral and place of transit of tuna: to exploit these resources was built about 400 years ago the Tuna "On Pranu" place of tuna processing and shelter for vessels used in the slaughter. A short distance you can see the impressive Spanish tower erected in order to safeguard the trap from pirate raids. All around a set of narrow streets and alleys on the seafront offering pleasant views.
In recent decades, Portsmouth has become a reference point for the economy of Sulcis Iglesiente. Well away from the town, around the industrial port of Portovesme fact gravitates pole metallurgical and energy industries. From this port, there is also a ferry to Carloforte. The town offers entertainment and cafes able to spend cozy evenings by the visitor.
