Tremiti Islands

The Tremiti Islands are an archipelago in the Adriatic sea to 12 nautical miles north of the Gargano promontory and 24 to the east coast and Molise Termoli, Province of Foggia.

The municipality of the Tremiti Islands is part of the Gargano National Park and a portion of its territory is the Tremiti Islands Marine Nature Reserve.

The archipelago consists of the islands of:

St. Nicholas, on which resides the majority of the population and are the main monuments of the archipelago.
San Domino, largest, on which are located the main tourist facilities due to the presence of the archipelago of the only sandy beach (Cala delle Arene).

Capraia (called also Caprara or Capperaia), the second-largest uninhabited.
Pianosa, a rocky plateau which is also completely uninhabited and distant about twenty miles from the other islands. The Cretaccio, a large clay rock a short distance from San Domino and San Nicola. La Vecchia, a rock smaller than Cretaccio and next to this .
